ISLAMABAD: The US Agency for International Development (USAID) on Friday provided 40 inflatable zodiac rescue boats, and seven additional mobile water treatment units, which arrived in Pakistan through three cargo flights. Until now, USAID had provided 13 water purification units capable of producing 1.3 million litres of safe drinking water on a daily basis. The total US flood assistance to Pakistan had reached $200 million. The US had also announced to expand its existing relief programmes in the flood-hit areas in order to provide temporary bridges, and mobilise the US military and civilian resources to rescue victims of Pakistan’s worst disaster and deliver the much-needed supplies. Separately, US military and civilian aircraft continued to support the flood relief operations and evacuated 8,275 people and delivered a large quantity of relief goods. The US has been the largest contributor of aid for the flood affectees. It has donated millions of dollars in aid, as it fears that terrorists might benefit from the situation and start their relief activities.
