ISLAMABAD – PTI Chairman Imran Khan has categorically stated that he in no way condones the statement made by MQM Chief Altaf Hussain inciting the military for another Martial Law.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Imran said that he feels that since the MQM is part of the ruling coalition, Altaf Hussain’s statement is a clear admission of failure by this ruling coalition. However, instead of calling for the Army to intervene again, with all the chaos that implies, the MQM should have chosen to leave the coalition and demanded mid-term elections.
Imran said, “It is a standard procedure in a democratic dispensation that whenever a government fails to deliver, it becomes mandatory on it to seek a fresh mandate from the people. The time has certainly come when a transparent election under the aegis of the judiciary are held immediately to bring the country out of the present crisis of confidence and the prevailing trust deficit that exists between the government and people of Pakistan.”
He said that as for the military, it is not its place to intervene in the political process and our past history reflects the costs we have paid for these interventions.
“At present the Army is doing a remarkable job of flood relief and it should not be dragged in to do political mopping operations, which turn into prolonged and costly political holding operations,” he maintained.
