LAHORE - US Ambassador to Pakistan Anne W Patterson met with Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif at CM Secretariat here Friday and discussed with him relief and rehabilitation activities for the flood affectees.
Provincial Minister for Education Mujtaba Shujaur Reh-man, Chief Secretary, Chairman Planning & Development, Senior Member Board of Revenue and American Consul General Carmella Conroy were also present on the occasion.
Talking to the ambassador, the CM said that the worst-ever flood in the history of Pakistan has played havoc in the affected areas, causing loss of billions of rupees worth properties while a number of towns and villages have been completely wiped out. He said the scenes of devastation caused by the floods are unprecedented, asserting that hundreds of thousands of houses have been damaged while millions of people lost their lifelong earnings.
He said the government cannot cope with this disastrous situation alone and needs support and assistance from the world community at this difficult time. He expressed his gratitude to the friendly countries for helping Pakistan in the hour of need.
According to him, Punjab population-wise is the biggest province of the country and it has faced the brunt of the devastation. He said Punjab government is utilising all available resources to provide relief and assistance to flood-affected populace and has set up relief camps in the affected areas where food as well as medical facilities are being extended to the affectees.
