LAHORE (APP): Anjuman Mazareen Punjab (AMP) has demanded the government to allocate land to the peasants, who cultivate it, instead of foreign investors. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Yunus Iqbal, Chief of AMP said that according to an agreement with peasants, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had constituted a committee headed by advisor to CM Zulfiqar Khosa to hold a dialogue with the representatives of the peasants at Chief Minister's Secretariat. He said that in the meeting peasants raised a point that government was making an agreement to allocate 5 lac acre of land to the international and multinational companies. He further said the committee was agreed that the land would be given to the peasants as they were the real owner. He remarked that no process was started to transfer the land to the peasants even after three months passed. He said that the peasants demanded President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and Chief Justice to take notice and the Punjab government should be directed to resolve the issue as soon as possible. He warned that the peasants would stage sit-in before the offices of the DCO at every district, if the transfer process of land was not started before Aug 10.
