ISLAMABAD (July 28 2010): A high-level meeting on Wednesday (July 28) ahead of the Cabinet meeting will review the overall economic situation and also try to resolve differences between the Centre and Sindh over the imposition and collection of reformed GST, Business Recorder has learnt.

Sources said the meeting presided by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani would be attended by all the chief ministers and the Finance Ministry high ups would brief the meting about the overall economic situation as well as the economic fallout of the delay in the International Monetary Fund tranches. The IMF has reportedly linked release of next tranche to the implementation of the reformed GST as well as to a substantive solution to issues facing the energy sector.

Sources said the political leadership at the federal and provincial level would have to develop a broader consensus to settle the issue of reformed GST on both goods and services amicably, so as to ensure that the remaining two IMF tranches be released in time.
