RAWALPINDI: PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif is concerned over the PM’s attempt to contact him only two hours before announcing a three-year extension for the Army chief, a PML-N leader close to Sharif told The News.

He said discussion on crucial matters such as extension to the Army chief takes place not only days but months before taking such a decision. He said the government claimed that it had a policy of taking along all the parties for the betterment of the country. However, after taking decisions by themselves phone calls are made and such an attempt is then named as consultation.

The PML-N leader said the prime minister had phoned Nawaz just to inform him about the decision on the extension of the army chief. The phone call was not made to discuss the matter of extension to the army chief as claimed by the prime minister, he said.

He said the issue of giving extension to the army chief was continuing for months. The phone by the prime minister only two hours before the announcement and was just to convey his order and the decision.

He said consultation or discussion on such matters are not held only two hours ahead of taking the decision. He said this state of affairs showed that how much the government is serious in its claim that it wanted to take all others along with it. He said there is clear contradiction in what the government says and what it does.
