900-acre land worth billions recovered

By Irfan Aligi

City District Government Karachi’s Revenue Department has recovered land of around 900 acres worth billions of rupees from the land mafia’s possession.

The anti-encroachment operation was launched in Gadap Town with a police contingent, 20 police vans and six Revenue Department vans carrying around 200 personnel including officers.

The operation was conducted against 14 residential schemes that were bogus, as the land mafia had demarcated land against each residential scheme and plots were also identified.

Revenue District Officer Shaukat Jokhio led the operation while a deputy superintendent of police from the Revenue Department accompanied him.

However, no police officer above the rank of assistant sub-inspector took part in the operation.

While talking to Daily Times, Jokhio said the anti-encroachment force had demolished hundreds of plots established on various bogus residential schemes including Village Bagh-e Naseer, Shah Nawaz Goth, Jan Muhammad Jamali Goth, Gulshan-e Arz, Ajmair Goth, Pir Bux Brohi Goth, Jilani Village, Ghanchi Nagar, Jalai Goth, Ameen Abad, Gulshan-e Raheem, Kashmir Valley and Goth Ameen.

A 10-acre land was also recovered from the mafia in Jam Chakro, Jokhio added.

It is pertinent to mention here that the land mafia had been selling plots to citizens on illegally occupied land and established lavish offices to deceive the ignorant customers.

However, no arrests were made, as the land mafia and site operators had already fled the scene.
