Defence Housing Authority (DHA) is planning to engage a professional firm to undertake survey of existing suction pumps and illegal connections in the area, Administrator DHA, Brig Khalid Tirmizi said.

The DHA will take action across the board against the defaulters, he said and asked the residents’ societies to play their positive role in exerting social and moral pressure on defaulters to refrain them from installing illegal suction pumps. Tirmizi said that the DHA will encourage participation of the residents in its ventures so as to benefit from their suggestions while planning and executing development projects. He was talking to a representative delegation of Defence Residents Society (DRS) led by its President Zafar Iqbal that visited DHA’s Main Office here on Wednesday and met him in his office and congratulated him on assumption of his new appointment. The delegation brought to the notice of Administrator the problem of proliferation of suction pumps and illegal water connections in the DHA, which has aggravated the already fragile water supply situation in the area.

Tirmizi said that the menace of suction pumps is alarming since they cause airlocks and blockades in supply lines thus adversely affecting the judicious supply of water. He said that the DHA is receiving less quantity of water against its allocated quota.
