Notice served on online press company

ISLAMABAD: Asif Hussain Shah, a taxi driver and author of the book “For Hire”, has served a legal notice of $100,000 on Zahur Klemath Zapata, an official of AZU online press company, for violating Copyrights Act by uploading the book to another web portal without intimating the writer.

Talking to Daily Times, 42 years old Shah said he had made an agreement with Zapata, a US citizen and in charge of AZU press, in early 2008.

Shah said according to the agreement titled ‘Your Work, Your Rights’ it was decided that the AZU press was not an owner of his book and would provide only publishing sales and internet access on the condition that author will be paid 30 percent of the retail price of the book, which was US $15 each copy.

According to legal notice served on Zapata, Shah has come to know that Zapata has shifted the book ‘For Hire’ from AZU press to the website http://www.bibliotecaklematch.com without the permission and consent of the author and further more several blogs have also been uploaded, linked with different websites which is entirely contrary to the agreement and against the Copyright Act.

Legal notice said Zapata’s illegal act had agonised Shah and caused him monitary loss as well.
