Supreme Court Friday rejected FIA’s report on the Steel Mill corruption case. A three member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, heard the suo motu notice taken on Rs22 billion loss incurred to Pakistan Steel Mills, a private TV reported.
During the course of hearing, the CJ said that the squandering of national money could not be tolerated. The CJ remarked that DG FIA would be held accountable for the said corruption. He observed that the embezzling of Rs 22billion was not an insignificant matter and vowed to get the probe completed in this regard. The court adjourned the case for three weeks.
Earlier, the Supreme Court has described the Rs22 billion losses suffered by Pakistan Steel Mills as the ‘largest dacoity’ in the country and vowed to punish the guilty. The Supreme Court had taken the suo motu notice on an article of Dr Ayesha Siddiqa published in an English daily on Sept 11 last year. Dr Siddiqa mentioned five concerns that benefited from the new sale policy of the mills -- Metropolitan, Amreli, Abbas Engineering, Al-Abbas Steel and Abbas Steel.
