* Court asks former FIA director general Tariq Khosa to
investigate case in consultation with NAB chairman

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: A three-member Supreme Court bench on Thursday directed the constitution of an investigation team, headed by former FIA director general and current Anti-Narcotics Division Secretary Tariq Khosa, to probe criminal cases in the Rs 9-billion Bank of Punjab loan scam and issue a notification in this regard today (Thursday).

The bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday issued the directives while examining progress into the scam case.

“We direct the NAB chairman to send a requisition to the establishment secretary to appoint a head of the investigation team to probe criminal cases in the BoP case and the authority is required to issue a notification today for the appointment of Tariq Khosa to this post in addition to his duties as the anti-narcotics division secretary,” the court observed.

It said the NAB chairman, after issuing a notification for appointment of Tariq Khosa, should meet him and other investigating officers. It also asked Khosa to investigate the case in consultation with the NAB chairman.

“If Tariq Khosa feels necessary to acquire services of any other officer, he can request the NAB chairman,” the court order said. The court also directed the investigation team to submit its progress report in the next hearing on June 11.
