Unscheduled load shedding throughout country, violence in Karachi

KARACHI: The Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) did the worst load shedding also on the weekly holiday of Sunday in the residential areas of Karachi.

However, the KESC officials refused to tell the reasons of the load shedding.

The citizens of Karachi demonstrated all day against longer load shedding in the city.

According to the KESC sources, electricity demand stood at 2,300 mw while there was a shortage of 900 megawatt.

More than 80 grid stations of the city tripped throughout the day because of overloading due to which the citizens were deprived of electricity for three to four hours besides load shedding durations in sizzling heat.

Load shedding and tripping of grid stations affected most the areas of Orangi, Korangi, New Karachi, Surjani Town, North Karachi, Federal B Area, Ayesha Manzil, Azizabad, Jacoblines, Lines Area, Kharadar, Mithadar, , Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Hadid and Saddar.

However, the KESC officials have refused to provide any information to media regarding load shedding.

Due to tripping of extra high tension coming from WAPDA, the KESC is being given 200 mw electricity.

On the other side, the WAPDA sources said that the KESC is being provided electricity in required quantity but load shedding is being done due to poor distribution system.
