LAHORE - Punjab government has finally scrapped mega National Ravi Park project and is considering strict action against the persons involved in harassing the residents and the owners of land of the area through wall calking, sources told The Nation on Tuesday.
It seemed that through the wall chalking the land mafia wanted to create uncertainty and sense of insecurity among the landowners, owners of mills and the residents of the area for achieving their objectives to buy land on cheap rates, they said. The government is tracing such persons who are spreading rumours on behalf of the Punjab government threatening the people of the area that any constructions in the site of National Ravi Park is prohibited and any violation in this regard would not be tolerated.
They said that such elements, involved in wall calking are doing their job late at night so that they could hide their identification. “Some political figures belonging to opposition parties might be behind such campaign to defame the government”, they added.
They said that government wanted to construct a lake on the River Ravi in order to raise and maintain rapidly decreasing ground water level of the City besides constructing a recreational park for the citizens according to international standard with an aim to make pollution free atmosphere of the City.
Earlier, provincial Forest Department in collaboration with City District Government had prepared the maps of site as well as a feasibility report of the project on the instructions of CM Punjab and sent him for further approval.
