ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) has started issuing no objection certificates (NOCs) for housing construction in the haphazardly developed Zone-IV of the federal capital, dividing the area into four sub-zones to streamline the development work.

According to a senior official, CDA had divided the 70,000 acres Zone-IV into four categories including sub-zones A, B, C, and D specifying their respective uses.

Under the revised master plan, the Sub-Zone A would include the built-up area falling in Sohan, Khanna and Bhara Kahu where the authority will streamline the constructions and a comprehensive policy in this regard has been drafted. In this Zone, the housing construction has been allowed but not without seeking permission from the civic body.

The sub Zone-B comprises the area, already acquired by the authority that would be developed sooner or later, what he said would help make up the deficiency of the housing units in Islamabad, facing the dearth of almost 60,000 units.

The residential area falling along Lehtrar Road, Islamabad Highway has been put in category C that has been allocated for housing units, residential apartments, educational institutes and small-scale agro farming, he added.

He said the civic body would allow only large scale agro farming in Simly Dam area as the authority could not allow residential areas within the catchments areas of the Simly Dam to preserve water quality in the reservoir.

He said CDA had completed the bylaws to deal with the haphazard construction in the Zone and streamline it as per revised Master Plan, recently approved by the Prime Minister.

The official said the CDA had started issuing notices to the people raising illegal construction, advising the people to avoid illegal construction activity as per new bylaws, any construction activity is subject to the approval from the authority.

The civic body has activated its Enforcement Wing to have vigilance on the construction activity and demolish the buildings being constructed without approval from the CDA.

He said no compromise would be made in this regard and also hinted at using force, if it required.

He said the head of the planning wing would give a detailed briefing to CDA Chairman next week to seek his guidance and get nod to start implementation of the Plan, adding that everything is on CDA’s disposal and it requires no more approval from the high ups. app
