LAHORE: US authorities on Thursday formally handed over Hamesh Khan, the prime accused in the Bank of Punjab (BoP) scam case, to officials of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Pakistani embassy in the US, NAB sources told Geo news.

NAB spokesman Ghazni Khan said that a three-member team, consisting of Moin Habib, counsellor in the Pakistani embassy in the US, Raja Amir Abbas, NAB deputy prosecutor general and NAB Punjab’s Financial Crime Investigation Wing (FCIW) Deputy Director Rizwan Khan, would bring Hamesh Khan back to Pakistan on May 14 (Friday).

He added that all legal requirements for his extradition to Pakistan had been completed.

Hamesh will be produced before Accountability Court in Lahore, where he is under trial for getting physical remand. According to NAB sources, Hamesh has been accused of abuse of power, sanctioning Rs 9 billion in loans to Sheikh Afzal, the chief executive of Haris Steel Mills, on fake identity cards for personal financial gains.
