KARACHI: Political parties organised separate programmes on Wednesday in remembrance of the May 12, 2007 carnage, which resulted in deaths of more than 50 people, mostly political workers, as then deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry arrived in Karachi during the lawyers’ movement for independence of judiciary.

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) hosted a seminar at Idara Noor-e-Haq, ‘May 12: Responsibilities of Government and Judiciary’ while leaders of Awami National Party (ANP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and lawyers addressed at the seminar.

Speaking on the occasion, JI Sindh leader Asadullah Bhutto said that May 12 would be remembered as a terror symbol. He urged the government and the judiciary to play their role for providing justice to victims of terror, adding the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo moto action in this regard.

PML-N’s Salim Zia said the people could not forget May 12 tragedy.

ANP’s Shahi Syed said the media had already exposed culprits involved in the May 12 carnage and political parties and the judiciary should come forward to say the truth.

According to a press release issued by the Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H), the party held a condolence meeting to remember those assassinated during May 12 carnage.

The ANP organised Quran Khawani for the victims at its head office, Bacha Khan Markaz.

Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party organised a pubic gathering at Banaras Chowk where speakers demanded arrest of the culprits. staff report
