LAHORE

THE Punjab cane commissioner on Monday issued notices to the seven sugar mills of the province over non-payment of sugar cess during the recent sugarcane crushing season.

According to the data available with The News, 45 sugar mills of Punjab had crushed 20.04 million metric tonne sugarcane during this crushing season and collected Rs757.9 million sugar cess against the total amount of Rs768.4 million. Out of this total amount, 50 percent was paid by the sugarcane growers as they deduct the sugar cess payment amount from their price while 50 percent was paid by the mills.

According to the figures, Haseeb Waqas Sugar Mill has to pay Rs1.9 million cess amount, Chistian Sugar Mill Rs2.5 million, Abdullah Sugar Mills (II), Okara, Rs 1.6 million, National Sugar Mill Rs1.5 million, Shukargunj Sugar Mill Rs1.8 million and Shakargunj Sugar Mill (I) Rs0.5 million and Shakargunj Sugar Mill (II) Rs 550,000.

On the other hand, Hamza Sugar mill has paid Rs68.5 million sugar cess, Ashraf Sugar Mill Rs 20.06 million, Ittehad Sugar Mills Rs22.01 million, Fatima Sugar Mills Rs28.09 million, Fecto Sugar Mill Rs13.02 million, Samundari Sugar Mill Rs3.5 million, Haq Bahu Sugar Mill Rs11.9 million, Abdullah Sugar Mill (I) Rs3.9 million, Abdullah Sugar Mill (II) Rs7.4 million, Adam sugar Mill Rs11.7 million, Hunza Sugar Mill Rs18.8 million, Hussain Sugar Mill Rs 12.5million, Indus Sugar Mill Rs22.4 million, Ittefaq Sugar Mill Rs14.5 million, JDW Sugar Mill Rs64.3 million, United Sugar Mill Rs26.4 million, Baba Farid Sugar Mill Rs5.3 million, Brothers Sugar Mill Rs14.8 million, Chinar Sugar Mill Rs16.5 million, Chaduary Sugar Mill Rs 14.2 million, Chistian Sugar Mill Rs3.4 million, Colony Sugar Mill Rs11.7 million, Colony Sugar Mill (II) Rs12.3 million, Crescent Sugar Mill Rs4.4 million, Haseeb Waqas Sugar Mill Rs2 million, Fauji Sugar Mill Rs9.4 million, Kamalia Sugar Mill Rs28.9 million, Kashmir Sugar Mill Rs16.8 million, Kohinoor
