LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif on Wednesday took suo motu notice of the Lahore development Authority’s (LDA) failure to provide an apartment to a 70-year old citizen despite allotment by the Punjab chief minister in 1986.

The CJ issued notice to LDA director general to submit a report within three days in this regard.

He also directed the director general to depute an officer to appear before the court with relevant record on April 30.

The CJ took suo motu notice on an application filed by Mian Muhammad Afsar, who stated that on March 12, 1986, then Punjab chief minister Nawaz Sharif allotted him a flat in Model Town Extension, Lahore, but the allotment was never materialised.

He said he repeatedly approached LDA for depositing money against the allotment, but to no avail.

The applicant said he had no plot or house and was forced to live in the Old People’s Home at Mayo Hospital.

Earlier, the LHC sent a copy of the application to the LDA director general for looking into the matter and the submission of a report in this regard within a week, but no report was received despite a reminder.
