The annual sports prize distribution ceremony was held at the Defence Authority College for Women Phase-VIII here on Monday.

Muhammad Fiaz Kidwai, Chairman Rotary Club for Pakistan and Afghanistan was the chief guest. He also inaugurated the newly furbished college gymnasium. Director Education DHA Brig (retd) Iftikhar Arshad Khan was also present.

The chief guest, Muhammad Faiz Kidwai, speaking on the occasion stressed the significance of sports in development of an all round healthy personality of an individual. He said that sports, besides studies were essential for students to make them confident and dynamic persons who could face the onslaught of life challenges successfully.

He also announced two special prizes for the player and athlete of the year. Khushnum Karanjia of XII Commerce and Marium of XII Science received the prizes respectively. He said sports made an individual goal-oriented develop sportsman spirit and inculcate moral and ethical values in a person.

Brig (retd) Khan appreciated the tireless efforts of the sports in charge and other faculty members of the college for promoting sports in the college. He emphasised on women empowerment both in academics and sports. He said that co-curricular activities gave great self-confidence to the students and proved to be significant in the process of personality formation. He also announced a special prize for the sports department of the college as a token of encouragement.

A beautiful presentation was also given by the students which highlighted the sports achievement of the college. Earlier Prof. Nasreen Nisar, Principal DA College for Women Phase-VIII, highlighted some of the monumental achievement of the college both in curricular and co-curricular activities.Prizes and awards were given to the young sport girls who brought laurels to the college in various sports events.
