LAHORE: Commissioner Khusro Pervaiz announced on Tuesday a series of measures that would be taken around the city to conserve electricity and cope with the prevailing power crisis. Chairing a meeting to review the proposals sent to the Punjab government on ways to combat load shedding, he announced the following measures:
* All shopping and trading centres of Lahore will be provided uninterrupted electricity between 5pm to 9pm every day.
* Shopkeepers should continue to save electricity even when there is no load shedding.
* The use of UPS, generators in markets to be forbidden after 9pm.
* No electronic neon signs should be switched on after sunset.
* The city would be divided into 7 zones and there would be no business activity in one zone on any one prescribed day.
* No function would be allowed in wedding halls after 9pm and decorative lighting outside houses and wedding halls would also be forbidden.
* Only 50 percent of all lights in public parks would be switched on.
* Hospitals, tube wells and flourmills would be provided ‘maximum’ electricity.
