ISLAMABAD: The dwellers of G-7 Katchi Abadi on Thursday staged a protest rally against their alleged manhandling by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) staff and police baton charge.

They demanded that the government hold a judicial inquiry into the incident.

The violence erupted when CDA team equipped with heavy machinery reached the G-7 Katchi Abadi and started demolition of houses. When the dwellers, who are mostly Christians, resisted the demolition the police baton charged them. As the result two women Nustrat Bibi and Yasmeen Bibi were injured.

Dozens of residents started shouting anti-government slogans. They appealed to Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo moto notice of the torture by the police and CDA staff.

They took the injured women to Aabpara police station for lodging FIR against the accused.

Talking to Daily Times, the injured women alleged that CDA staffers with the help of police baton charged them and also used vulgar language against them. They demanded that the government order arrest of the culprits and bring them to before the court of law.

Meanwhile, CDA officials said the authority would outsource demolition process to raze illegally constructed structures in the federal capital.
