KARACHI: The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) had started construction and onward installation work of pedestrian bridges across the city. However, out of the 320 planned pedestrian bridges, only 79 have been completed till date. The overall funds required for 320 pedestrian bridges come to Rs 6.40 billion. However, the CDGK Transport and Communication Department (T&CD) has availed approval for further 10 pedestrian bridges for the city from Sindh government and they would be completed soon. The Sindh government has approved funds worth Rs 200 million for these bridges and the estimated cost of one pedestrian bridge comes to around Rs 20 million. The CDGK T&CD has also sought approval from the federal government for additional 20 pedestrian bridges and it was expected that the federal government would approve the release of funds worth Rs 400 million required to allow the CDGK to kick off fabrication and installation of the pedestrian bridges. staff report
