ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is all set to inaugurate the rehabilitation project of Soan River Bridge and Service Road West of the Islamabad Express Way today (Thursday).

The rehabilitation of western side of the Soan Bridge on Islamabad Highway has been completed at a cost of Rs 181 million that would help provide smooth way to around 50,000 vehicles crossing the bridge daily.

“The bridge, with half a kilometer stretch and width of 13 meter has been completed in a record period of five months. It has 9.4 meter wide carriage way and 1.8 meters walk-a-way on each side,” said CDA Chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi addressing a meeting on Wednesday.

He said the project would not only facilitate the adjacent areas but also the people visiting the federal capital.

He said the widening and rehabilitation of Service Road West along Islamabad Express Way from Faizabad to Karal Chowk had already been initiated that would be completed at a cost of Rs 200 million.

“This road stretched over seven kilometers would be completed by June, this year and the project would substantially decrease traffic burden on Islamabad Express Way and facilitate the population living on the Western side of the Express Way,” said the chairman.

In the first phase, 3.5 kilometers road would be rehabilitated from Khanna Bridge to Karal Chowk whereas the second phase of the project includes construction of 3.5 kilometers concrete road from Khanna Bridge to Dhoke Kala Khan.

He said a number of the projects including City Centre at F-7 Markaz, Development of Jubilee Park, Ankara Park, Rain Water Harvesting Project, Rehabilitation and cleanliness of natural ravines were yet to be initiated soon. app
