ISLAMABAD: Dr Shama Khalid took oath as Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) on Tuesday and became the first ever woman in the country’s history to assume governorship of a province. The chief judge of the Supreme Appellate Court GB administered the to Dr Shama at a special investiture ceremony held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. She was appointed governor on Monday by President Asif Ali Zardari. Dr Shama is a leading social worker who has voluntarily worked in different parts of GB and served the cause of anity by setting up free summer medical camps every year. The oath-taking ceremony was attended by President Zardari, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, GB Chief Minister Syed Mehdii Shah and federal ministers. app
