Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that all resources are being utilized for the provision of basic amenities to the masses and development projects have been launched for the purpose.

He said an effective monitoring system had been devised to ensure transparency in all the mega projects.

He was addressing a meeting held to review the pace of implementation of uplift projects under the Annual Development Programme at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat here on Tuesday.

The Planning & Development chairman, the Finance secretary and other officers concerned were also present.

The meeting reviewed the pace of work and the utilization of funds on development projects in various districts of the province.

The chief minister said the government had adopted a comprehensive strategy for rapid development of the province, with special emphasis on the health, education, potable water and infrastructure development.

He said that agriculture was the backbone of the national economy and development of the sector was being given due importance. He said that 10,000 tractors were given to small cultivators last year through transparent balloting and 10,000 more tractors had been given this year through the same transparent procedure. He said that this step of the government would help in increasing agri- production, ultimately resulting in the prosperity of farmers. He said that solid measures were being taken under the Annual Development Programme for the uplift of less-developed areas and uplift schemes were being executed in the areas on priority basis.

He said that setting up of IT labs in more than 4,000 schools and establishment of the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund reflected the commitment of the government towards promotion of education.

Consul General of Iran Saeed Khurazi, Member Punjab Assembly Mohsin Latif, the commissioner and the district coordination officer of Lahore, the PHA director general, some Iranians and a large number of people were present.
